Maitland Regional Art Gallery (MRAG): Located at 230 High Street,
Walka Water Works: Located at 55 Scobies Lane OAKHAMPTON HEIGHTS, Walka Water Works, as well as being a popular picnic and recreation area in the Maitland district, is also steeped in history that gives it a special place in the Lower Hunter's heritage. The complex features its pumphouse with striking chimney and ornate brickwork and is one of the largest and most intact 19th Century industrial complexes in the Hunter Valley. The large lake area with over 300 species of birdlife is suitable for water sports like canoeing and sailing and walking trails surround the lake. Picnic and barbeque facilities are available and there is a children's playground area at the old pumping station built in 1887. The area is also available for outdoor weddings and functions.
Grossman House: Located in Church Street Maitland, Grossman House is one of two mirror image, Victorian Regency properties, built side by side on the same lot in 1870-71 for the prosperous business partners, Isaac Beckett and Samuel Owen. Managers of Grossman House, The National Trust holds an extensive collection of 19th century costumes and textiles at Grossmann House, linked to lifestyles and industry in the region. Examples from the collection are on display. Internally, the house reflects a prosperous Victorian ambiance. In season, an antique rose garden is a highlight. Maitland Town Hall: The Town Hall building is located next to the Council's Administration Building on High Street (west end). It is a beautiful ornate building and clock tower and was opened in 1884. The Town Hall holds the honour of having the first electricity connected in the area when in 1922, electricity was connected to the Hall's front lights.
Maitland River Walk: Maitland's River Walk is a picturesque walk that runs alongside the Hunter River in the centre of Maitland CBD, adjacent to the Heritage Mall and High Street. Across the river the quaint town of Lorn can be seen. Whilst you meander along this walk, remember to take time to read the historical plaques and admire the artworks detailing the 1995 Maitland floods.
Maitland Heritage Mall: The Heritage Mall is an open air paved pedestrian mall in the heart of Maitland CBD. It is home to unique boutiques and retail stores, and nationally recognized brands. As the name suggests each beautiful historic building tells its own story and holds its own place in the heritage of Maitland. Bronzed plaques in the paving detail further Maitland's history.
